Playing Career
Ronan began his football journey with East Coast Bays, where he played until the age of 15 before moving to Western Springs. At just 16, he made his first-team debut and went on to enjoy several successful seasons at the club. His performances earned him a place in the Wellington Phoenix Academy, where he spent two years competing in the National League.
He later moved to the United States on scholarship, playing four years for the University of Denver and receiving multiple individual accolades. His college career led to him being selected 53rd overall in the MLS SuperDraft by Atlanta United. Following his first professional season, Ronan returned to Auckland and in 2026 will compete in the newly formed OFC Pro League with Auckland FC. Internationally, he has represented New Zealand at U23 level, making appearances in 2023, and was a non-travelling reserve for the New Zealand Olympic team in 2024.
Coaching
Since 2018, Ronan has been involved in a wide range of football camps and development programmes. He coached with the Wellington Phoenix on numerous occasions over a two-year period and continued coaching extensively during his time in the United States. His experience spans players aged 5 to 17 across all ability levels.
Ronan is passionate about player development and takes great pride in sharing his knowledge with young players who are eager to learn and improve. He places strong emphasis on building confidence, technical ability, and a love for the game, while ensuring football remains an enjoyable and motivating environment.
Personal
Ronan is 24 years old, born in South Africa and moved to New Zealand at the age of 8. He grew up on the North Shore and attended Westlake Boys High School and Wellington College. Football runs strongly in his family, with his brother being a former All White who enjoyed a professional career spanning over a decade in multiple countries. Surrounded by the game from a young age, Ronan developed a lifelong passion for football, which now carries through into both his playing and coaching within the Coach Monty environment.
