An ex-All White (15 caps) and ex-professional football player. Monty has played overseas in several top professional footballing environments. Monty started his professional journey at Ipswich Town in England. Monty spent 4 and a half years with the club and made his first team debut against none other than premier league giants Crystal Palace ( in a cup match ) During his time at Ipswich Monty had loan spells with national league side Braintree Town, and A league side Wellington Phoniex. The next Country football took Monty to was America, where he played a season with USL side Oklahoma Energy. After this brief but enjoyable spell in America Monty spent a season playing in Norway, returning to New Zealand the following season amidst the first Pandemic outbreak. Since his return home, Monty has been playing football back in Auckland and finished top goal scorer for his club in the last 5 seasons. scoring an impressive 89 Goals in the last 5 years. In 2024 Monty received the MVP and Golden Boot award for club side Birkenhead United for his efforts in the New Zealand National League. In 2025 Monty received a call from Atlético Ottawa. Professional soccer team in Canada (Owned by Atlético Madrid) offered him an opportunity to join them. After careful consideration Monty took this opportunity. During this time Monty was able to further his knowledge and skill set in a top professional environment. Not only a team of great players but vast experience. Players with careers in La Liga, Liga MX, Russian super league and at International level. This combine with access to a great coaching team, Monty has been able to develop greatly as both as a player and coach. The clubs strong ties to Atletico Madrid meant Monty was able to develop a deeper understanding of football at an elite level. Learnings he is now able to share with Coach Monty players, and Junior teams.
